The drive south runs through New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. In Washington a private licensed guide takes over for a walking tour that starts at the Lincoln Memorial, with the Reflecting Pool, the World War II Memorial and the Washington Monument in view, then moves to the White House and the Federal Triangle. The guided part ends inside the Smithsonian National Museum of American History; if you would rather spend that hour on Capitol Hill, the operator offers that instead.
