The road from New York to Washington is about 225 miles, and with traffic it can take five hours or more each way. The Acela runs from Penn Station to Washington’s Union Station in about three hours, and the Northeast Regional in a little over three and a half. You arrive in the middle of the city, a short drive from the Capitol, rested enough to walk.
